Homeowner Insurance

Many of our Homeowner Insurance clients have noticed that their rates increase year after year. The reasons for the increased cost are understood (bad weather, higher building costs, etc.) but the added cost still hurts! Here are some things can be done to reduce the cost of Homeowner insurance.

First, take pride in your home. From early spring to late fall, do what you can to keep your lawn manicured and hedges trimmed. It is amazing to see how your good efforts will rub off on your neighbors.

Guard and Improve your Credit Scores

Insurance rates are largely determined by your claim history and your credit scores. Try not to report minor claims. Only use your Homeowner Insurance when you have a loss that you can’t afford to pay for out of pocket.

Many people do not realize that Homeowner Insurance Companies share their claim information so if you have a claim it becomes part of a public record and companies use it to determine cost and/or availability.

Other Factors to Consider:

In addition to the topics we’ve already mentioned, these factors may also be impacting your annual insurance costs:

  • Maintenance
  • Roof Age
  • Furnace / HVAC condition
  • Wiring
  • Location
  • Proper use of wood burning devices
  • Alarm systems

Use an Independent Insurance Agency as they have multiple companies to choose from. They can offer options that a direct company or agent who sells for only one company cannot offer.
